Iris' foot is much better. She's walking again,
albeit a little gingerly. If it is a fracture it's a minor one so
she didn't need to be put in a cast. She is also a much happier girl
today- obviously not in too much pain anymore.
I made a couple of mistakes yesterday. I should have known better than to hike in that
heat especially after feeling rundown from not enough sleep. I also
did not drink enough water while hiking. So it is completely my
fault that I came down with
mastitis last night. (This is where
my mother would say I also need more zinc and selenium in my diet.)
So I've been pretty laid up all day and Eric has been awesome. By
the time I woke up this morning he had already done the dishes,
swept, took out the trash, folded laundry and had the coffee made
(very important!). He rescheduled his afternoon patient and
took the boys out for the afternoon while Iris and I rested. He then
fed everyone, including me and kept the cold packs coming when my
fever spiked up really high. Isn't he great?
I've decided that we are done with medical
issues in this house.

Iris has not been having fun lately. On Wednesday and Thursday she
had several outbreaks of
hives all over her body. She was
itchy and fussy. Her pediatrician said it was most likely viral but
also wanted to take necessary measures to rule out a parasite. That
means I have the pleasure of messing around with stool kits. She has
been taking an antihistamine to keep the hives under control.
Iris is fully walking now but yesterday afternoon we made a trip into the
emergency room because she wouldn't use her right leg. Nothing
showed up on the x-rays but they suspect she has a broken bone in
her foot. We're not sure how she injured her foot but we think
she may have pulled a book or something else down from a shelf onto
herself. There isn't much they could do for her. They didn't cast her so she can be rechecked
tomorrow during regular office hours. She's pretty frustrated by this because it's too painful to walk or even really crawl.
She won't let me put her down at all. Thank goodness for my
sling!
It's really hot and humid here right now. It's
the kind of weather where Eric and I would prefer to just hang out
in the a/c. But with two very active little boys, that usually
is not a wise choice. It's great weather to cool off at the
beach but we tried that last week on a really hot day and the beach
was way too crowded. So Eric came up with the idea of hiking up
Great Blue Hill in the
Blue Hills Reservation. The trails go through the
woods so it wasn't too bad in the shade. We also got an early start
before the day really heated up. Iris enjoyed herself riding
in the sling the whole way up and back down again.
I took a few pictures of the boys today:

We had wonderful weather yesterday. Of course we took full advantage
of it and went downtown. We got up and out early and
decided to take the car instead of the subway. We beat the crowd and
got a parking place one block from the
Public Garden without even having
to circle! We arrived just as the
Swan Boats
were opening and didn't have to wait in line. After the boat
ride we went across to the
Common and played for awhile and
then had a picnic lunch. You can

Public Garden and the Boston Common.
The boys are at preschool camp three mornings this week. This gives
me a nice break to get a lot of things done. We are planning on
having a yard sale on Saturday to try to simplify and reduce even
more in anticipation of our next move. The money earned will go into
a special account that we use to save up for vacations. The profits
I earned on
eBay helped to fund our week in Vermont in July. I think
I have almost as much fun planning our trips as I do taking them. We
are hoping to go somewhere in December because Eric gets 2 weeks
off.

I have been a member of
Freecycle for a few months but
today was the first time I actually got something. Freecycle is a
great way to clean out your closets, basement, etc of all that stuff
that you just aren't using or don't need anymore. If you have
something you no longer want or use, you post a description of it on
the list. Then whoever wants it will e-mail you and arrange for a
pickup. A couple of months ago I gave away one of my double
strollers to a woman pregnant with twins.
Anyway, last night a woman posted that she was giving a 35mm camera
away so I immediately emailed her. It turned out that she lives
pretty close so I went to her house and I brought home an
Olympus OM 10. She also threw in a
store credit to
H&M. Pretty Cool!

I wanted to go to
Fenway Park to see the
Red Sox play while we are living in
Boston. I went to their website to look into purchasing tickets and
could not believe how outrageously expensive tickets are. It would
cost $80 to buy 4 standing room only tickets. That was the cheapest
I could find for the rest of the season. Instead I think we will go
see the
Pawsox, the Pawtucket, RI
minor league team.
Yesterday we went to the
Garden in the Woods in Framingham, MA to see the
Big Bugs sculpture exhibit. We had
a nice hike through the woods and the boys really enjoyed the bugs.

year old from yesterday:

Now that I've gotten some of the font issues
worked out, I need to come up with a better name for this blog.
"K Family WebLog" is just too boring. I'd like something more creative
but not too cheesy.
Sorry, no new kid pics today. I'll post
some tomorrow or Wednesday.
Here are links to 2 nice photo sites:
Infrangible and a
Korean Site.
I think I have found my dream car!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY IRIS!

Can you believe it has already been a year? We had a nice day
today. We stopped by our local coffee house,
Emack & Bolio's
and walked to the
Arnold Arboretum. On our way home we stopped at the
farmer's market to check out the Corn and Tomato Festival.
Terry Kitchen a folk singer, provided entertainment. It
was starting to get pretty hot so we stayed long enough to hear him
perform an acoustic version of "This
Diamond Ring." Hmmm. We then came home and all took
a long nap. Iris and Theo are actually still asleep. After everyone
gets up and around we are going to eat at our favorite restaurant,
Full Moon.
Sorry, Iris: no birthday party this year. We are still kind of wiped
out from being out of town for a week. We got back from Kansas City
2 nights ago. We had a great time hanging out with friends and
family. It was a blur of partying. My sister, Elizabeth, and
Peter came
in from California with their baby,
Sam and my Aunt Robin came in from Oregon with her 2
daughters.

The kids and I are going to Kansas City tomorrow
for a week to visit my family. Eric is really bummed out
about being left behind. He really doesn't like to be apart from us.
This is on top of having just found out about being kicked out of
our apartment in November. Poor Eric! At least I'll be distracted
all week.

ban gay marriage.

Tues
day,
August 3
It turns out that Penny is renovating the place
for a reason. She and her son came over this evening to tell us they
are going to sell the two separate units as condos. Our lease ends
in November and they would like us to move out then. Her son, Andy,
will just happen to have an open unit at that time and we are free
to move in there. The problem is that we will then have to
move again in June when Eric graduates because we will be leaving
Boston. Can you believe that this will be the third time in 18
months that our landlord will have sold our place? That also means 3
moves in 18 months. My poor children!
Anyway, Eric is going to look at Andy's place
tomorrow. We don't have much of a choice because we won't be able to
sign a year's lease so our prospects of finding another place is
slim. It's only a couple of blocks from where are now so at least we
can stay in our neighborhood.

Tues

We are living in a construction zone. Our new
landlady, Penny, has hired a landscape architect to redo the yard.
The boys have spent a lot of time watching the bobcat out the back
windows. The workmen are currently in the process of tearing apart
the driveway with a jackhammer. This is actually taking place about
3 feet from our bedroom window. While this is a good thing, our
outdoor space was practically unusable before, the noise is
preventing Iris from napping. It's also a little unnerving to have
one or two of the workmen looking back at me every time I look out
of the window. Good thing we are leaving town on Thursday. Maybe
they will be finished by the time we get back.
Last Saturday night we went to Providence, RI to
see
Waterfire. It was a really great event and really
beautiful. I don't think I can describe it very well. It's something
you just have to see so if you are ever in the vicinity it is
definitely worth attending.
Click Here to see a photo that Eric
took of the fires. The city also has an outdoor ballroom. Saturday's
band was from
Cape Verde and we had a great time
dancing with the kids. (Both Boston and Providence have very large
and strong Cape Verdean communities)
