We had another busy
weekend. We have never been ones to spend a lot of time at home and
there is just so much to see and do here.
On Saturday we went
to
Forest Hills Cemetery for the
opening reception of a sculpture exhibition. It was a group show of
artists who all had previously shown their works there before. We
didn't see all of the sculpture because it was spread out over the
grounds of the cemetery and the boys were tired. But the ones I did
see fit in with the place very well; I thought they were a little
spooky. (Or did I just see them as spooky because of where I was?)
It does seem a little strange to have an art opening in a cemetery,
but it is a very beautiful place. In fact we plan on going back in a
few weeks for the annual Lantern Festival, which we have gone to
twice before.
At the reception
the music was performed by
Boston Village Gamelan, a group of local musicians who
play traditional Javanese music with
traditional instruments,
most of which I had never seen
before.
Yesterday we took a
day trip down to Plymouth, MA to visit the
Plimoth
Plantation and to see
Plymouth Rock. The Plantation was
very interesting and really put together well. We also boarded a
replica of the Mayflower. I think it was well worth the $44
admission fee we would had paid if I had not won the tickets.
Plymouth Rock was right in the middle of the town of Plymouth. It
was pretty touristy and I was surprised at how small it was.

Happy birthday to
my sister, Caroline! She is 21 today so it's a big one.
We explored the
grounds and hiked some trails of the
Bradley Estate in Canton, MA.
We had the place to ourselves and we saw a lot of different kinds of
birds. I saw a very pretty
oriole. The estate had a very fussy
but beautiful formal garden, a big kitchen garden as well as many
trails through the woods. After 3 years I'm still so amazed at how
much green space there is inside and immediately around Boston.
Here are some pics from today:

All the walking from today and
yesterday really tired out my guys. Both boys were in bed and asleep
by 6:15!
A big sigh of relief: The house was
sold and they close on Monday. The new owners bought it as an
investment and want us to stay as tenants. Hopefully it will all
work out and we will be able to stay here until we leave Boston next
summer. Also Eric feels confident that he did well on his exam. He
only has one academic block to go and then 3rd year is finished.
We are counting the days!

Eric has his Oral
Surgery final tomorrow. He should be studying but is sound asleep on
the sofa. Summer is great! We went to the
Arboretum twice this week:

Happy Father's Day!

We spent a lot of time
doing
this yesterday as we are very tired
from a busy weekend.
Today is summer
solstice. On Friday night we went to a family solstice celebration
at the
Mass Audubon Canter in Belmont. We
learned about traditions from many cultures all over the world: we
made
Hopi prayer sticks; we picked
fennel from the garden; ate strawberries and had a ginger ale
toast. We also took a hike in poison ivy and mosquito infested
woods- but it was really great.

I added a yellow page at Henry's
request. He is colorblind and yellow is one color that he can see
very well. Henry has protanopia.

Here is a link to an interactive
site for web developers to see how people with different kinds of
colorblindness see web pages. Just type or paste in the URL of our

I had to drive down
to Marshfield yesterday to take something to a friend's house. Her
property happens to border
Mass
Audubon's North River site. Sometimes harbor seals
are visible at the end of the trail but we didn't see any. We did
have a nice hike and picnic though. Since it was still early when we
finished and such a beautiful day we decided to go to the beach. We
went to Duxbury, the next town over, which is known for its
beautiful beach. We were not disappointed and since the school year
hasn't ended yet we practically had the beach to ourselves.
The water was too cold for swimming but the boys had a great time
covering a dead ray with sand.

Eric's father,
David, is in town visiting. Yesterday our brother-in-law, Steve,
brought his girls up from Providence and we all went to Cambridge to
the
Dragon
Boat Festival. I was a little
disappointed in the festival; I guess I was expecting more colorful
boats. But it was a nice day to sit on the banks of the Charles
River and the kids had a great time together.

We really enjoy our Mass Audubon membership with the
dozens of cool sites around
the state. One of our favorites is
Drumlin Farm.
(Of course climbing on things is more fun than looking at the
animals.)
