It aggravates me that my sons are obsessed with Home Depot. I know, what kid (especially those of the male persuasion) wouldn't be? There are rows and rows of cool things to look and those mini lift trucks everywhere!  Saturday morning we were building a lego city. Henry built the fire house and I was in charge of the train station. Henry then decided that Theo should build a Home Depot. The rest of the conversation went something like this:

Julee: You mean a hardware store?

Henry: What's a hardware store?

Julee: You know, a store where you can buy paint and tools. Home Depot is a hardware store, just like Ace on Washington Street where Daddy buys tools sometimes. Why don't we build a hardware store?

Henry: No, I don't want a hardware store, I want a Home Depot.

You may wonder what my problem with HD is. Besides the horrendous service we receive just about every time we go there, HD is not a neighborhood friendly store. Chances are the Ace or True Value in your neighborhood is locally owned. In all 3 Boston neighborhoods in which we have lived, we were able to walk to one of these hardware stores. Most HDs are are only accessible by car.  It peeves me that my 3 year old recognizes the logo. But of course he does: it's everywhere!

Hey, you Movable Type users: I'm thinking about giving it a try. Would you please comment on your positive and/or negative experiences?

Tuesday, November 23

There will be no Thanksgiving dinner for us this year. I was going to host one here but I got mastitis (again!) So we are just going to lay low and have a nice relaxing day doing nothing. Eric will need a low key day anyway since he just started his oral surgery rotation.

I will have a glimpse into the lives of Colleen and the other people I know who are married to medical residents. Eric left the house this morning at 6:00 am and he doesn't expect to be home until about 9 or 10:00 pm. This will be his schedule 6 days a week. He will also have to take call and spend a handful of nights at the hospital. Lucky for me this only lasts for 4 weeks, instead of 3 years. However right in the middle of this rotation he has to take Part II of the National Boards. I imagine that he will be spending his few hours of "free-time" studying.

I have a bunch of new photos but the drive doesn't recognize our new memory stick. I need to find the right cord and connect the camera directly to the computer so I can upload them. Maybe tomorrow...

What do you do when you have 3 energetic children and you live in a small apartment? You go out. You go out a lot. It's not very cold today so we went to the zoo this morning before the boys had school. It's only about a 3 minute drive away so we go there often. Of course they are really more interested in climbing on the structures and running around than looking at the animals.  I brought the camera with me and finally have some new pictures of Iris.

Not that we need to upgrade right now, but I really like this computer.

Sunday, November 14

It snowed Friday night. I am sooo not ready for winter weather. It wasn't too bad of a storm; we only got 3 or 4 inches. Eric didn't have to dig out the car like he has done so many times in the past 3 years.  As much as I love Boston, I will not miss the long, cold and snowy winters. I was really happy to see that the average temp in San Antonio for January is 50 degrees.

We took the kids to the Museum of Fine Arts today. On Sundays they have several different activities for kids. We ended up in the African Gallery where the boys drew pictures of boats and fire with charcoal pencils. Later during dinner, I asked them what was their favorite part of the museum. Henry said that he liked the "long time ago people with parts missing." He was talking about the Greek and Roman statues with the broken off arms and noses.

I know that I promised some new pictures of Iris. However none that I took turned out well. So next time...  Instead, here are 2 more of the boys: Picture 1 and Picture 2.

Friday, November 12

Every Saturday and Sunday evening my sons like to listen to the Playground, a radio show for kids on WERS. The like to call in request songs- usually "Who Let the Dogs Out" or "YMCA." (such great taste in music) A few weeks ago they ran a contest for a couple of tickets for a Stevesongs concert and we actually won.  The concert was yesterday and Eric had the day off so we could go as a whole family. They only gave us 2 tickets so the plan was to arrive early and buy the others we needed. We got there 30 minutes early and it was already sold out.  So no concert for us.

So we took them to the New England Auto Show at the Bayside Expo Center. I had a blast and I think the biggest thrill was they got to sit inside of a real Jeep. Here's a picture of Eric and the boys inside of a Beetle.

Here is a picture of Henry with his soccer trophy from his last outdoor soccer game. I'm so glad that the season is over because it was so cold that day. Today we start indoor sports. T-ball for Henry and a general gym class for Theo.

I'll post some photos of Iris next time.

Wednesday, November 10

I've noticed there are a ton of SAHM bloggers. Aren't we an exciting bunch? I don't have much to write about right now; my life lately has been a routine of preschool, housework and play dates. I don't even have any new pictures of the kids to post.

Here are some sites I have found lately:
(in no particular order)

Sorry Everybody
Minnesota Association of Rogue Taxidermists  (make sure you click on the thumbnails)
Ecotonoha
Japanese Smileys (Emoticons)  \ ( ^o^ ) /
Babel Fish Translation
Terrorism Schmerrorism  (sorry, it's a little crude in places, but so funny)
The Power of Corel from Testypea

I finally checked out Blog Explosion. After reading about it in various places, I did kind of expect to feel like a traffic whore after signing up. My traffic did increase, probably threefold. But I really enjoyed reading so many of the blogs, that I came away feeling clean.

Saturday, November 6

All three kids are sound asleep and Eric is at a dental school function. So I'm having a great time with a beer in hand, catching up on the other blogs I like to read. (One of these days I'll add a blogroll) I couldn't have asked for a better Saturday night.

With no internet service, I didn't have the opportunity to post about the election results on Wednesday. I don't think words could begin to describe how we felt. Though I did like what  Suzanne said about it.

Saturday, November 6

We are finally back on-line! We had ordered DSL which only worked for about the first 12 hours after we had moved in. The provider told us they were unsure why it failed but could have it up and running again by the end of the month.  There was no way: I had a hard enough time going a week without being connected. So we switched to cable. It's a little bit more expensive but it really seems to be a lot faster. And it works!

So we've been here for a little more than a week and we are almost completely settled in. The new apartment is much nicer and sunnier. The neighborhood is nice and we live a few blocks from the Orange Line. We took the subway downtown last night and ate dinner at the Prudential Center.

Here are a few pictures: Halloween, Iris 1 and Iris 2.
