Check out Mummy Bear. It's weird.
Wednesday, September 29 Here is a picture of the 5 year old eating his birthday pancake this morning. We'll celebrate in style with a bowling party over the weekend.
Tuesday, September 28 I scored again with freecycle! Iris is starting to outgrow many of her diapers. So about 2 weeks ago I posted that I was looking for large AIO or fitted cloth diapers. Last Friday a woman in Acton, MA sent me an e-mail telling me she had some for me to pick up. On Sunday we made the 40 minute drive and it was well worth it. I got 2 large garbage bags full of re-uz'ms, snug-to-fits, stacinators and even some hand knit wool covers. They are all in excellent condition and even better, they were all free. I didn't use cloth diapers with the boys. At the time it seemed too overwhelming but it's actually really easy. (I know this sounds weird, but it's kind of fun too.) When I was researching what kinds of diapers to buy I found Darshani's Natural Parenting page to be extremely helpful. I think cloth diapering could be even easier if I used a mini-shower. I've had my eye on one for awhile and Suzanne gives it a thumbs up. Installing one will the first thing we do after we move in November. Anyway, on our return trip home we passed by Walden Pond and just had to stop. Here is a picture of the boys, though it did not come out very well.
Saturday, September 25 Take this quiz: What kind of mother are you? "You're a girl power mommy! You love to be girly, but you're no pushover. Your kids are learning that gender differences don't have to mean gender inequality. You've taken back pink, and you don't care who knows it!" We brought our lunch to the Arboretum today and let Iris out of the
stroller to run around.
Here are some pictures.
Thursday, September 23 Look
who got a haircut yesterday. I was
going to let it grow out a little more because he has such beautiful
hair but Eric said he is starting to look like an
English rocker. (I'm not sure if
that's a good or bad thing.) That's not really why I took him to the
barber; his hair was just getting too big on top.
Wednesday, September 22 I'm finally getting around to posting
pictures from the weekend. For the
fourth year in a row we went to the
Family Fire Safety Day. In the past
it had always been held at Houghton's Pond, not too far from our
home. This year they moved it to the
Massachusetts Firefighting Academy
in Stow, MA. It was way cool. Because it was held at the Academy
they were able to demonstrate firefighting with real fires. We saw
them put out a
car fire
and a
building fire.
Friday, September 17 Neither boy has school on Fridays so we went to the Audubon site in Canton, MA to go hiking. We didn't hike for long. About five minutes into the woods a swarm of mosquitoes descended upon us. So we went back home and took a nap instead. This evening for dinner we went to a Greek festival put on by the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Dinner was overpriced and mediocre but the desserts were to die for. The band wasn't set up yet but the DJ was playing Greek music so the boys cut up the dance floor in a way only children (or drunks) can do. I actually found a
Hello Kitty item that I would
prefer not to have. Who would have ever thought...
Tuesday, September 14 Today was Theo's first day of preschool. He walked right into his classroom and didn't look back once. Click Here and Here to see the preschooler. When I saw the pictures of the cats at Catprin I remembered being a little girl and dressing up my kitty, Cupcake (may she rest in peace) in doll clothes and wheeling her around in a doll pram. My favorite on the page is definitely Anne's Housekeeper Package.
Monday, September 13 Here are some photos of Iris. I'll put some up of Theo tomorrow since I haven't posted many of him lately.
Saturday, September 11 Click Here to see a picture of my soccer player from today's game. There are 9 more games this fall so be prepared to see a lot more of these pictures. September also happens to be childhood cancer awareness month. I don't know these families personally but heard about them through word of mouth and I have been following their stories for a while. Please remember them in your thoughts, prayers or however you choose to do such things. Allie & Samuel
Friday, September 10 Our summer vacation is coming to a close. Henry's soccer starts up again tomorrow and the boys will be back in school next week. I think everyone is ready for the routine. We took the commuter rail downtown and saw the jellyfish exhibit at the New England Aquarium today. It was pretty cool. And even better: we got in for free with the aquarium pass from the public library. From there we took the subway to the main branch of the library to attend the Children's Book Festival. The authors of some popular children's book were on hand to read their books and their was live music for the kids. The event was catered very nicely and we got to take home great goody bags from Target. We heard Glenna Lang read Looking Out for Sarah. After she was done, the real Sarah from the book played the guitar. She now has a new guide dog, not Perry who is in the book. It was very nice. I didn't have the camera with me today. Eric had to take it to school to take pictures of the inside of a patient's mouth for an upcoming case presentation. Click Here to play with the online version of a childhood favorite.
Monday, September 6 Labor Day, the unofficial end of summer! We actually had autumn-like weather this weekend and it was a very nice change. We still have one week left of summer vacation though. The boys don't start school until September 13 and Eric's school schedule is very light. Both boys will go to pre-school this year. Henry missed the cutoff for kindergarten, which is fine because it puts off the decision to homeschool for at least a year. We had a fun weekend (as always!). Saturday we went to Houghton's Pond and then went home to nap because in the evening we went to see a Pawtucket Red Sox game. The Sox lost, but the boys had a great time. Henry especially gets caught up in the excitement of cheering along with the crowd. On the drive home Eric asked what was their favorite part of the game and they both agreed it was shaking the hand of the mascot. Yesterday we went down to Faneuil Hall because I read in the paper that there was going to be a Street Performers Extravaganza. The boys love watching them perform and it's a pretty cheap entertainment. But when we got down there, there were none performing- just tons of tourists. We then walked over to Long Wharf to look at the boats and watch planes take off from Logan Airport. Today we went on a hike at the Bradley Estate in Canton, MA. The kids and I went there earlier in the summer but Eric had never been there before. Instead of having separate links for each picture I am going to put them all on one page. So click HERE to see a handful of photos from the weekend.
Thursday, September 2 Things are finally starting to get back to normal around here. Iris has completely recovered and I'm feeling much better. On Tuesday while Iris and I stayed home and napped, Eric took the boys to Cambridge to the Harvard Museum of Natural History. Eric brought a ton of animal sheets that he printed from Enchanted Learning so the boys could circle and color pictures of the animals they saw. They were gone all day and it was strange to have such a quiet house. They had a blast but I don't feel like I missed out. I really don't like Taxidermy: I think it's really gross. Harvard's collection is definitely on the old and mangy side and just thinking about it makes me gag a little.
If you, like me, are purposely ignoring the RNC
right now because you don't want to feel sick or angry, here are
some things you can think about instead. September just happens to
be:
I know that the real reason our families back in
Kansas look at this site is only to see photos of the kids. Here are
some of Henry and Iris playing. (Theo was still asleep)
