My husband is sick, sick, sick
I received this email today from a fellow freecycler giving away some gerbils:
"Have all male gerbils with cage, waterbottle, exercise wheel, etc.
Have too many - are keeping females"
Eric responded (from his own email address!) with:
"Have they been grain fed? How much do they weigh? How many are there? How much exercise have they had? Are they muscular or kinda fatty?
Thanks,
The Risky Gourmand"
He hasn't gotten a reply yet. I'll let you know if he does.

A great photo album
I really like the style of this photo album and the woman who created it includes a tutorial on how to build one yourself. It looks like I have a project for the next couple of weeks.

Television
Iris is starting to talk. She's saying the usual first baby words: no; more; mama, dada; bye; etc... She's also starting to say some things that have aggravated me a little bit. She can say Jay Jay and Boobah. You are probably thinking: "Get a grip, Julee, it's not that big of a deal!" You're right. I grew up watching countless hours of Three's Company, Gilligan's Island and Happy Days and I am just fine. Anyway PBS is (sort of) commercial free. But commercialization is exactly my objection. You can't get away from the characters.
I'll stop my crazy rant now because I promised I would let Theo play on the Boobah webpage when Buster is over.

Social Security Reform
It looks like the Republicans are pretty upset about the AARP's stand on social security reform.

A Long Week Ahead
It's February vacation week which means no school for the boys. In the midwest spring break is usually held in March. In the northeast, and maybe other parts of the nation, the schools close for a week in February and then a week in April.
It's going to be a long, hard week. I had made some plans for playdates and I have a long list of fun places to go in and around Boston for the winter. I was even planning to psyche myself up and get everyone bundled up to go play in the fresh new snow that we got yesterday. Well, plans change. Both boys now have fevers and it looks like we are stuck inside for now. They are not terribly sick, but Theo is definitely acting more mellow than usual. Henry on the other hand, who is always super-energetic has been bouncing off of the walls.

Gender Roles Defined
Just kidding. It's not really an issue for us.
Anyway, Theo wanted to get Tinker Toys with his birthday money (which happen to be plastic now) and I saw this stroller in the aisle and I thought Iris needed to have it for her baby doll.

The boys wanted to play with it too, but they wanted to race it around and crash into eachother. So much for gender neutrality in this family!

A Quote for Today
"What good is fresh air if you have a lot of unemployed people breathing it?" Robert Stec, CEO of Lexington Home Brands
Well gee, what good is a lot of jobs if everyone is too sick from respiratory illnesses to go to work?

After we had cake we pulled out the baby pics. I wish I could go back for just and hour and hold my (not so tiny)Baby Theo again.

It's Dental Health Month
In honor of Dental Health Month Eric visited both boys' classrooms and did a presentation. He used freaky dinosaur puppets with real dentures that he borrowed from the dental school. Of course the kids all loved it.

Orders Received
Eric received his orders from the Air Force today giving us the date as to when he needs to report in San Antonio. It's a few days earlier than we thought it would be and it looks like he will miss his dental school graduation. We had thought about not hanging around for it anyway and I guess that decision has been made for us.
We've been preparing for this move for a while but seeing the date on paper today made it feel very real. As much as I've been whining about the winter weather, I love Boston. I really love Boston. I have made some very wonderful friends here and I'm pretty sad about leaving.

Boston Sports
In the four years that we have lived in Boston, the Patriots have won the Super Bowl 3 times and the Red Sox finally lifted their curse. Coincidence? I think not. Just see what happens next year when we move to Texas.

We went to the Children's Museum yesterday

Eric had Friday afternoon off so I picked up the museum pass from the library. It's the perfect time to go because hardly anyone else is there and that place can get really get crowded, especially in the winter.

You shovel it...you own it!

It's a Boston tradition that if you shovel out a parking space on the street then it's yours. As long as there is still snow on the street you can reserve it, usually with a chair or a trashcan. It worked out pretty well for us during this past snowstorm as we ended up with a space right at our front door. Then the mayor announced that trash crews would remove all markers still on the street as of yesterday morning. I had images of someone swiping our spot and me having to park a block away and trudge through the dirty snow with all three kids in tow. I'm still using the chair just like most of the people around here and so far so good.

Dinner at Doyles
We went to our local pub for dinner tonight. Wednesday night is stuffed chicken night and it's a really good meal. Doyles also happens to be Sam Adam's Beer's first home and they were actually wrapping up the filming of a Sam Adams commercial when we arrived. I'll have to watch for that one.

I'm finally using Movable Type
It will take a little time to personalize this site and bring all of my links back. At least they had a pink template for me to use in the meantime.
