Our Suburban Life
We moved into our new home a week ago. We went from a very small apartment in the city to a sprawling house in the suburbs. We even live in one of those subdivisions with a cute name.
I will definitely miss being able to do most of my errands on foot and stopping at a coffee house on my way home, but we already really like having the subdivision pool a half block away. I'll miss being close to the subway station but it's pretty nice having an attached garage with an automatic door opener. We have a nice fenced-in back yard and I can actually see my kids play from the kitchen. We don't have to worry about waking the childless neighbors downstairs when our kids wake up at 6:00 am on Sunday mornings.
Back in Boston we had a pair of men, who were probably as close as you could get to the real life incarnation of the Furry Freak Brothers, keeping track of the activity on our street. Here in San Antonio we live next door to the president of the neighborhood association, who came over and introduced himself to Eric while he and the boys were mulching. (a very suburban activity)

I thought you might like the extra room to stretch out! Just remember to take advantage of the good things the USAF has to offer, we get free babysitting twice a month, playgroups and classes. Living off base can isolate you from the officer's spouse club events, so be sure to join when they have the next meeting. Having other people to commiserate with is priceless to you sanity as an Air Force wife!

Julee,
You'd better get my room ready! I'm on my way (Eric can hardly wait to see his mother-in-law)
Elizabeth and Sam are here and we are having a blast, but it would be better if you all were here.
Elizabeth sends her love and she enjoyed your postings.
Hugs and miss you
Love,
Nini (Mom)

My favorite thing about moving from the city to the 'burbs was being able to let the kids outside to play on their own. That rocked immeasurably. It's a mixed bag, of course. But a good one.

I just moved to the suburbs after living in the country for the past 7.5 years. I am liking it a lot and am thinking I actually want to either stay in the suburbs or move into the city eventually. I guess there are advantages to both. :-)
