Katrina

I haven't really felt like writing much lately. Anything going on in my life is pretty insignificant after seeing the events in New Orleans over the past week.

Having said that, San Antonio is abuzz over the 25,000 or so evacuees that have arrived over the past few days. There seem to be relief efforts everywhere, from all the city's major corporations to little kids with drink stands in their front yards. I was at Lackland AFB on Friday for a couple of routine pediatric appointments and there was a long parade of pick up trucks overflowing with all sorts of supplies heading over to Kelly USA, where several thousand people are staying.

I hope they can start their lives anew soon. As hard as I try, I just cannot imagine what it would be like to have to live and take care of my family in a big open shelter, sleeping on cots night after night. I know that so many of these people really, truly have nothing and nowhere to go.

I can barely take care of my kids in a house let alone in a shelter. And what about my zoo of animals? My heart goes out to these families. I have donated cash and cannot wait to donate food and clothes.
