So Much Going On
I haven't been very good at this lately. We have had quite a lot to grapple with.
Eric turned in a letter to resign from the Periodontics program last week. After being in school since January 1999 he has (we have!) decided that he needs a break. He just doesn't have it in him to put in 80 plus hours a week for the next 3 years. He is ready to have a normal job, a normal life with evenings and weekends. No more tests, no more studying!
So what does this mean? Well, he will work 40 hours a week as a general dentist in the US Air Force for the next 4 or 5 years. (The exact length has yet to be determined) They haven't accepted his resignation letter yet. They keep giving him more time to reconsider, hoping he will change his mind. In the meantime he has gotten an unexpected vacation because they don't know what to do with him. He meets with the base commander on Friday and it will probably be official then.
Who knows what will happen next? We have heard rumors that we will be reassigned to McGuire AFB, NJ before the end of the year. Oh, the excitement of the base assignment!
I will keep you posted.

Yeah on the more time with your hubby! I know it was probably a difficult decision, but it sounds like it was probably for the best.
Ugh on NJ. You could come here to Ohio! LOL!

You have to decide what is best for the family! I know about the long hours, Jason is pulling a 24-hour shift right now. Fortunately for you general dentistry is a very acceptable thing. Being a general doctor is unheard of, it means you can hand out band-aids, or you can become a flight surgeon which makes you UBER deployable.Yuck.
Ha. You guys took a stand at the Alamo to decide your future just like we did!
Good luck. The next few weeks sound exciting.

Not that Periodontics is like studying for your PhD in Statistics, but my husband did the same thing and it turned out for the best. I think he would have burned himself out and went math crazy! Good Luck!

That must have been a tough decision. How funny that the Air Force now does not know what to do with him... and how crazy that you just moved halfway across the country to Texas and now may be heading back over to New Jersey... your adventures continue!!! I send good vibes your way that all will turn out for the best! And I cannot say I blame you guys... 80 hours a week for 3 years is tough with a family!!!
