Friday Night at the ER

Friday night I had plans to go out and have fun while Eric and the kids stayed home to watch a movie. Wouldn't you know it... about 5 minutes before I was supposed to leave, Theo falls and whacks his forehead on the floor while balancing on one of those oversized plastic outdoor balls.

He was crying pretty hysterically but we kind of shrugged it off at first since there was no cut or bruise. But after a few minutes he started to act very strangely, staggering around and slurring his speech. That was a little scary so I immediately drove him to the ER, which is a good 20 minutes away. By the time we got there it had gotten a lot more scary because I couldn't get him to stay awake. Over the course of our four hour visit it got progressively harder and harder to rouse him, except the one time he woke up by himself to vomit all over my legs and the waiting room floor. The sleepiness did help out when they ordered a cat-scan. He was completely out and didn't move a bit. They were able to get a great scan and gave him the all clear. He just got a concussion. We were released and he was ordered to take it easy for a few days. He slept most of Saturday and was still throwing up some, but by yesterday our old Theo was back. Phew!

This experience sealed the deal; my sons (and my daughter) will never play football.

Oh gosh- I'm so glad he's doing better! My brother one had recurrent concussions so after he probrably his 3rd or 4th(the previous ones were nonsports related) playing peewee football he was never allowed to play again.

Oh, how frightening. As I'm reading the post, I'm thinking to myself, "Uh-Oh - head injury signs" So I was glad to hear it was "only" a concussion. And, as I recently spent several hours in the ER on a Friday night, I sympathize with you on the un-fun part of that... were the police dragging in people in handcuffs who were kicking and screaming as you were leaving at midnight too??? Crazy place, I could never work there!
