The Battle of Iron Works Hill
Yesterday we took the kids to see a Revolutionary War reenactment, a first for all of us. It was great! The Battle of Iron Works Hill was planned as a way to lure some of the Hessians into fighting to prevent them from being present for the Battle of Trenton. It took place on December 23, 1776. Though the Patriots had to retreat, the overall plan was a success with the victory at Trenton. (The Hessians were German soldiers contracted by King George III to fight in the war)

The man in the tall gold hat is a Hessian. The men in the green coats are loyalists, colonists who support the king.

Redcoats

The rag-tag Patriots.

The smoke is from the artillery fire.
